Your Child's Development - Pre-school

  • We adhere to The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework which “sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe.  It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.”

There are seven areas of learning, which include the following:

    • Personal, social and emotional development
    • Communication and language
    • Physical development
    • Literacy
    • Maths
    • Understanding the world
    • Expressive arts and design

As part of their development each child is observed every half term and their development file is updated accordingly. We hold two parents’ evenings per year in order to keep you informed and we also operate an ‘open door’ policy, where you are able to speak to your child’s keyworker about everyday matters.

We consider the individual needs, interests, and stage of development of each child in our care, and use this information to plan a challenging and enjoyable experience for every child in all of the areas of learning and development.

A typical day at Pre-school will include register time, time with your child’s keyworker, snack time, free play (indoor and outdoor), singing and a story.  During the year before a child moves on to school, they will attend one or two sessions in the following structured groups:

    • Letters and Sounds/Read Write Inc
    • Maths
    • Spanish
